With over 30 years of teaching experience, Swank's classes focus on race relations, sexualities, gender norms, class dynamics, and social movements. His Arizona State University classes include: MAS 501: Methods of Interdisciplinary Inquiry; HRC 200: Introduction to Social & Cultural Analysis; HRC 310: Social and Cultural Analysis: Method and Theory; AMS 201: Introduction to American Studies; AMS 334: Class in America; WST 276: U.S. Women's Movements; WST 380: Gender, Race & Class; WST 494: Race & Sexuality in Social Justice Movements.
While at ASU, Swank has been on the MA capstone committees for several MAIS and Social Justice students (Monique Medina, Christina Leonard, Samantha Vidal, Laisa Schweigert, Madison Carlyle, and Michael Karger). He has also chaired three Barrett capstones (Marli Mayon, John Payton, and Caroline Rudel) and two of his undergraduate advisees have won awards for their poster presentations at the NCUIRE annual conference (Hassan Rasoul and Ayanna Shambe). Before coming to ASU, Swank had published peer-reviewed articles with numerous Morehead State University students as well (Rita Amburgey, Hideko Asada, Lindsay Clevenger, Vicki Eldridge, Holly Haywood, Lisa Mack, and Erin Robinson).
